Turkey: THY strike poses concerns for textile

Ankara Clothing Manufacturers Association (AGSD) President Canip Karakuş stated on Thursday that a Turkish Airlines (THY) strike would likely put a stop to textile and clothing industry exports.
“The THY strike and collective bargaining are worrying the textile sector,” he said, adding that the Cabinet would make a decision about the strike but that its implementation could be devastating for Turkey’s economy. “The textile and clothing sector, crucial for exports, will be negatively impacted.
Many enterprises will be in difficult situations and many people may lose their jobs. And if negotiations begun in some parts of the textile sector fail to find a compromise, that would be the second knock for the sector,” he stated. Karakuş also called upon Civil Aviation Workers’ Union (Hava-İş) executives to be conscientious. He said that Turkey’s economy is currently in a period of transition and, while they respect laborers, employers should also be shown consideration
