TURKEY: Sabanci mulls North Africa production plant

Turkish textile company Sabanci_Holding Textile Group is looking to globalise its textile business, starting with an investment in North Africa.

According to Murat Karadut, general manager of Sabanci's Bossa unit: "Sabanci textile group's new strategy is to globalise its procurement and production.

"According to our studies, the most attractive region for investment is Egypt and Tunisia and our initial plan is to establish a facility here, which will be an investment around US$70-80m."

Bossa, one of Turkey's largest vertically integrated textile manufacturers, generated a turnover of US$210m in 2006 and has 2,750 employees. The company is working on ecological production with a new collection produced with organic cotton, ecological dyes and minimum water.
