CHINA: Textile, garment exports up 19.5% in year to August

Exports of textiles and garments from mainland China in the first eight months of 2007 were 19.5% higher than in the same period last year according to the latest customs figures.

Cited by local news reports, statistics from China Customs show the value of exports increased to US$112bn from January to August, while imports were 4.4% higher at US$12.5bn.

The US, Japan and Hong Kong took 37.8% of the exports, worth US$42.2bn, while shipments to the EU were worth US$19.3bn or 17% of the total.
